While 2007 was the franchise best year, in the midst of an awful 2008, The Rockies began the rebuilding process by trading their biggest star, Matt Holliday, to the Oakland Athletics for pitchers Huston Street and Greg Smith, and outfielder Carlos González. At season end their pitching and hitting coach were both replaced.
